CampusConnectEd
CampusConnectEd is a collaborative project involving six German universities. Its aim is to bring together faculty and students to create a campus experience that can be enjoyed nationwide.
The project will run for four years, with an option for extension by two years. During this time, innovative, flexible and collaborative teaching and learning structures will be developed across universities to help students acquire competencies that are relevant for the future – particularly in the area of sustainability. Building on a previous project, the SDG Campus learning platform will be further developed and interactive and AI-supported learning environments will be strengthened. Another key focus of the project is the creation of additional in-person learning opportunities and flexible recognition models (microcredentials/certificates) to support individualized study paths and cross-institutional exchange.
CampusConnectEd – New ways of connected teaching
Universities are increasingly facing the challenge of responding to social and technological changes. Limited resources, formal requirements and rigid curricula often make it difficult to develop modern, interdisciplinary course offerings. At the same time, topics such as digitalization, sustainability and active learning formats are becoming increasingly important. CampusConnectEd addresses precisely these issues and creates new opportunities through cooperation.
With the teaching innovation project CampusConnectEd, higher education teaching is being fundamentally reimagined. Approximately 15 million euros in funding will enable new forms of collaborative teaching and learning to be developed and made accessible nationwide. Under the coordination of Hamburg University of Technology, several universities are working together on a connected, future-oriented educational architecture.
CampusConnectEd brings together students and faculty from various universities in a shared digital and didactic space. In addition to TU Hamburg, the participating institutions include Bauhaus-University Weimar, HafenCity University Hamburg, RWTH Aachen, TU Dresden, and the University of Stuttgart. Together, they are developing cross-institutional teaching and learning scenarios that enable new forms of collaboration.
Over the course of the project, the aim is to explore how universities can establish sustainable joint teaching and learning structures. This includes flexible study offerings, innovative learning formats and transparent procedures for the mutual recognition of academic achievements. A particular focus is placed on developing cross-disciplinary competencies in the areas of artificial intelligence and sustainability.
Project Goals
- Reducing the resource burden on universities through a shared, innovative infrastructure for interactive, AI-supported course offerings
- Expanding the range of course offerings and fostering interdisciplinary exchange for students by allowing them to choose courses from all partner universities
- Flexible study structures through certificates and microdegrees, as well as cross-institutional recognition practices
CampusConnectEd is funded as part of the “Teaching Architecture” call for proposals by the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre (Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education). A total of 119 projects have been selected nationwide to receive a total of approximately 480 million euros in funding over the next six years – with the aim of sustainably advancing higher education and teaching.
